Mon & Tue & Wed
Mon night Doug & Lonnie climbed Wolf Creek Pass to almost 11,000ft the highest point in RAAM, then Mike & Tina finished up the Colorado Rockies. Although there were fires in the area, there was only a light smell of smoke in a few area’s which didn’t affect us. Mike and Tina had another tough section, with lots of long climbs which took almost 10hrs. They’ve had a few hard sections. At this point we’ve gone over 1,000 miles. One third of the way to the finish.
Tue Doug and Lonnie started the morning by finishing up Colorado and headed into Kansas. It was a 200mi section where the “Cranked It Up” and pounded out in 10 hrs with major cross winds, thunder, lighting and trying to outrun the storm to time station 23 (1,325mi). Then at 8pm local time (Central Time), Mike and Tina headed into a windy Thunderstorm which really pounded on them. The storm his them hard for another 10.5 hours.
Wed. Mike and Tina finished their section at 6:45am (central time) and handed the riding off to Doug & Lonni in Pratt KS. The weather in the morning was a little overcast, no wind and in the 70’s. Doug & Lonni continued East and the winds picked up again from the South giving them that crosswind to deal with. The hand off to Mike and Tina was in El Dorado KS.
Waiting for the riders
No tornado warnings this time!
Drug Testing
I doubt there is much, if any, performance enhancing drug use by RAAM riders, but I’m pretty sure Team 409 is riding clean.
