The Crew
Crewing for RAAM is at times harder than riding because everything is focused on the riders. The RV crew (Dan, Jordan and Sara) navigate the route and sometimes detours (Dan was surprised with the 10mi of dirt road). They maintain the RV and cook, shop, do the laundry, and Sara is coordinating and keeping track of all the teams activities and progress.
The Crew in the Van, follow the riders for hours and hours. Taking are of the bikes, (tires, tuning, lubing) and then trying to sleep when they can.
They have been awesome!!!
The RV
We are so lucky to have Dan’s RV, how called Harvey. With the luxurious accommodations after the riders and two crew are finished with their riding session. All four are able to shower, eat and be sleeping within 90min and the RV can be on the road towards the next exchange site. Another German team member came by to see the RV. He said that they paid $26,000 (plus expenses) to rent a “rock star” RV, but he doesn’t like it because it only has a place to sleep and site (living room style) no kitchen. He asked if he would be able to hire Dan for next year

Day 2 plus
Saturday (Day 1) is over and I’m a little late with Day 2 (been riding). Day 2 (Sun) moved us through a number of Arizona towns. Parker, Salome, Congress, Prescott, Cottonwood, Flagstaff, Tuba City, and Kayenta. The weather has been hot (86’s in the evening and 100’s in the day). All has been going good, but the evening crew had a tough ride with construction and miles and miles of rough roads. Through Arizona puts us out 725 mi with 2270 left to go.
Since this is late (mid day Mon), we have already gone through Utah, where we saw the sun rise in Monument Valley, UT, which was beautiful. Weather was 70-80s and at times a nice tail wind. Now we’re heading into the Colorado Rockies
